Susanna Hansson taught us the history and techniques of BOHUS STICKNING.  This Swedish knitting style was directed to the haute couture market of the 30's, 40's and 50's.  It was the creation of Austrian-born Emma Jacobsson, the wife of the governor of Gothenburg, as a means of providing income to the wives of quarry workers.  Susanna shared with us not only her knowledge of the history and technique of this intricate, stranded color work, but also her collection of vintage Bohus Stickning garments.

Samples of early Bohus Stickning sweater, hat, scarf and glove sets.

An original "Blue Shimmer" hat and a modern reproduction.  This contrast shows the importance of gauge and delicate color-shading of the yarns in producing the true Bohus Stickning garment.

The workshop project was a pair of wristlets, knit in the "Blue Shimmer" pattern from Swedish wool/angora blend yarn, as used in the original garments.

Dinner with Susanna was as educational as her Workshop.  We are ready to move to Seattle to learn more from this gifted teacher.
